Your Teacher

Hi, I'm Leah.
Ms. Z to my students.

Leah Ziegler, founder of Calculated Growth
🎓 M.Ed., Harvard Graduate School of Education, Mathematics Instructional Leadership
📐 BS Mathematics Education, Eastern Michigan University, Magna Cum Laude
State Certified Teacher · ESA & School Choice Program Approved
📊 Former Math Coach, Curriculum Director & Dean of Instruction

I have spent 12 years teaching math and studying how students actually learn it. That journey has taken me from the classroom to math coaching, curriculum design, and instructional leadership, always asking the same question: what does this particular student need to move forward?

I am patient, encouraging, and honest with my students. I bring a calm, warm presence that helps kids feel safe enough to take risks and make mistakes, because that is where real learning happens. I celebrate effort and growth loudly, and I give feedback that is caring, direct, and always in service of the student's confidence.

I am passionate about the moment a student's face changes when something finally clicks. Every child can succeed at math when it is taught the right way, at the right pace, connected to the way they think. That belief drives everything I do.

Outside of teaching, I am a proud mom of three boys, ages 6, 4, and 3. We love playgrounds, our family cabin, and a good game night. I also have two cats, Kiki and Toto, named after the Miyazaki films. Pet cameos during sessions are always welcome.

How It Works

A program built around your child.

From our first conversation to ongoing progress, every step is intentional, clear, and designed around your child specifically.

1
Before We Start

Discovery Call

A free 30-minute conversation so I can understand your child, how they learn, where they are, and what they need. I come to session one already prepared.

2
First 2 Weeks

Assessment & Planning

The first sessions are about learning your child as a math learner. I build a plan based on their actual level, concepts to revisit, and what will work for them specifically.

3
Every Week

2 Live Sessions (60 min)

Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, your choice. Each lesson is individually designed and interactive, focused on clear learning objectives. You receive a summary email after every session with your child's work attached.

4
Every 4-6 Weeks

Family Check-In

We review growth together, where your child started, where they are now, and where we are going next. The plan adjusts as your child grows.

Every student receives:

Free 30-min onboarding call
8 live 60-min sessions per month
Custom-designed lessons, no templates
Interactive activities built for engagement
Post-lesson email with student work attached
Family check-in calls every 4-6 weeks
A teacher who knows your child, not just their grade level
Investment

Three clear options. No surprises.

Whether you need one session or a full program, the right fit is determined together — based on what your child needs.

Kelis, parent of 7th grade student
★★★★★
"I am incredibly impressed with the quality of instruction Mathew receives. Despite the lessons being online, he has made significant strides in understanding complex concepts like fractions and continues to build a strong mathematical foundation. Mathew is high-functioning with Autism and ADHD, and Leah demonstrates exceptional patience and a specialized approach necessary to keep him engaged. He genuinely looks forward to every session and is always eager to start."
Miriam, parent of 5th grade student
★★★★★
"Leah has helped my son come so far in such a short period of time. My son is not only up to grade level in math, he actually said to me, 'mom, I think I actually like math,' which is huge considering he is 13 and has hated math for a long time. Leah pulls in real life scenarios and helps him understand how math is needed for his goals of working in cybersecurity. She is creative and finds a way to make each lesson engaging and relevant to his interests while helping him master the concepts. We are so happy that we found her and will be continuing tutoring through his high school math subjects."
Carrie, parent of 8th grade student
★★★★★
"Leah is truly amazing and has met my student where he was, adapting lessons in a way that made learning feel accessible instead of overwhelming. Her patience and understanding created a safe space for him to engage, take risks, and actually enjoy math. Most importantly, she helped him build confidence in himself, and that has made all the difference."
Dedra, parent of 7th grade student

Questions

Good questions deserve clear answers.

I specialize in grades 6-8 math: pre-algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. This focused specialization means I know exactly where students get stuck and how to get them moving again.
Yes. I have experience adapting instruction for students with a range of learning profiles, and I'm comfortable adjusting pacing, presentation, and practice to meet your child where they are. During our discovery call I'll ask about your child's learning style so I can plan accordingly from day one.
That is what the discovery call is for. After we talk, I will recommend the plan that fits your child's needs and your family's goals. You can also start with a single session to experience the program before committing to a monthly plan. There is no pressure, just an honest conversation.
Many states offer Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) or school choice scholarships that can be used to pay for tutoring services. I am registered as an approved provider in applicable programs. Reach out and I can help confirm whether your state's funds apply.
Each session is 60 minutes, online, and built around clear learning objectives. I use interactive presentations and custom activities, sometimes gamified, to keep students engaged. Afterward I email you a summary with your child's actual work attached.
I keep an intentionally small caseload of students. This is how I maintain the level of care and preparation that makes this program work. Spots are limited.
Life happens and I get it. I ask for 24 hours notice when possible, and I do my best to accommodate rescheduling based on availability.
